Aaron Maté debunks the Washington Post's Grayzone propaganda
A new WaPo article claims that the leaders of the Grayzone are paid by Russia and Iran
“News site editor’s ties to Iran, Russia show misinformation’s complexity” claims the *newly edited* title of a libelous article from Washington Post writer Joseph Menn. He announced the article by tweeting the following:
I wrote about a news site whose top leaders have taken money from Iran as well as Russia, showing how it is getting harder to trace the forces behind any one false narrative.
The article, as you likely already guessed, gave zero instances of evidence that the Grayzone has accepted any money from any foreign government. The writer’s only “proof” was that one staff editor used to do journalism for Iranian and Russian state media outlets before joining the Grayzone. We don’t, oddly enough, see any articles about journalists who used to work at the BBC or CBC, accusing them of being British or Canadian agents.
In the article, Menn smugly writes that the Grayzone “describes itself as an independent investigative news site.” When you google Joseph Menn, he describes himself as a journalist who covers misinformation. Perhaps a little too well.
The article comes at a time when Russiagate is ramping up again for the 2024 election, with headliner Rachel Maddow blaming everyone and everything on Russian misinformation. Up next, it’s the Democratic National Convention which is a “target-rich stew” for the Russians. Again, no evidence, but they say it anyway.
Of course, she claims, the expected protests outside the DNC in Chicago aren’t because Biden is overseeing a genocide in Gaza or implementing Trump’s draconian border policies. Nope, they’re caused by the Russians.
Katie and Aaron are doing their best to laugh instead of cry at all of it. There’s a lot of really dumb lies coming out of corporate media this week. Stick with Useful Idiots, you’ll laugh too.
