After over a year of genocide in Gaza with multiple ceasefire attempts quashed by both the US and Israel, a tentative deal has finally been reached – just days before Trump is sworn back into office. Which is begging the question: who’s really responsible for this?
And at the end of a rambling press conference (in which Biden condemned the “attack by Hezbollah on October 7”), a reporter asked Biden if he or Trump should get the credit.
Slowly, ever so slowly, Biden turned around: “Is that a joke?”
But what, really, is the joke? That President Biden was so ideologically subservient to Israel and morally responsible for funding this genocide that he allowed an opportunist like Donald Trump to take credit for making a ceasefire deal happen?
That complicity is also the reason Biden lost the election, and the reason we’re about to swear into power an administration whose members proudly call themselves Christian Zionists (see: waiting for the rapture, Jews who don’t convert condemned to eternal damnation, etc etc). And we’ll soon see what exactly this ceasefire deal entails: did Trump make promises to Israel, such as the ability to annex the West Bank? Will Israel follow through with the deal, or stop after Phase 1 like they always have in the past? Will any of these warmongers face accountability?
These questions and more will all be answered, as this marks the final Thursday Throwdown of the Biden era. Blinken and Sullivan give their farewell messages for Israel and Ukraine on their way out, Mike Johnson promises unconditional aid for Israel and conditional aid for California, and Pete Hegseth gets protested during his confirmation hearing.
