Democracy Dies with Democrats – with David Sirota
Plus tune in to Monday Mourning Live on Youtube at 10am
David Sirota quotes FDR:
"Democracy has disappeared in several other great nations, not because the people of those nations disliked democracy, but because they had grown tired of unemployment and insecurity, of seeing their children hungry while they sat helpless in the face of government confusion and government weakness through lack of leadership.
“Finally, in desperation, they chose to sacrifice liberty in the hope of getting something to eat."
Sirota, whose exclusive new series Meltdown with academy-award winning director Alex Gibney is now streaming, thinks today’s Democrats face the same problem.
“I would say that's part of the meltdown. It’s a loss of faith in not just the government, but the society. A loss of faith in all of the stories that we’ve been told as Americans. Wealth inequality skyrocketed under the Obama administration, even Obama admitted that at one point.
“That level of inequality tells people, especially if you see people at the top who are essentially benefiting from a rigged system, that the American dream is a dream where you lie, cheat, and steal. The Democrats are in power and cannot show that they can deliver real material help to people directly.”
It’s a dark warning from David Sirota. …Perfect for Halloween, right?
It’s all this, and more, in the subscriber-only episode of Useful Idiots. And don’t miss a new Useless Idiots tomorrow about costumes, coffee, and drumming. It’s a nice break from the news.
