Hollywood's New "It" Couple: Volodymyr Seanpenskyy
Thursday Throwdown – Your exclusive dose of midweek media madness.
If the freedom to dream was a spear, the tip of that spear would be the couple that all of Hollywood is calling “Volodymyr Seanpenskyy.”
The Golden Globes, cutting off a Spanish-speaking actor to ensure there was ample time for jingoistic pro-war propaganda, had a very special moment where actor Sean Penn introduced the Ukrainian president to a fawning crowd. No other wartime president in history has spent this much time addressing Hollywood award shows: Zelenskyy spoke at the Grammys, the Golden Globes, and got slimed at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards after winning Coolest Funny Guy.
It says a lot that in his speech, Penn only mentions those suffering under US enemies, Ukrainians, Iranians, and Afghans, but refuses to honor those terrorized by US allies, like Palestinians or Yemenis. It is this jingoistic rhetoric, applauded by the Golden Globes crowd, that has now become the acceptable mainstream in the US.
This is the Thursday Throwdown, which means we also cover Biden’s ongoing Documentgate (Corvettegate?), JP Morgan’s fears about Biden not running (don’t worry JP, the working class won’t be getting healthcare anytime soon, you can breathe easy), and Sean Hannity’s praise of the diverse GOP.
It’s our Thursday mini-episode. Let us know in the comments what corporate media monologues, interviews, or anything else you want to see on the next Thursday Throwdown.
