I can attest. About fifty years ago, I was living in Santa Monica Canyon and every night I ran up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu and beyond to deliver the LA Times. It was a very scattered route and there was no real development. There were ranches where now you see thousands of buildings. I have been shocked over the years, seeing reports of fires there, how much had been built and how much traffic there is. It has been completely overbuilt
Wild fires always happen in the LA area. The Santa Ana winds are nothing new. You have to be prepared to deal with fires right away, before they get out of hand.

It's a shame that it was released on VHS, but it's an excellent documentary. Barry Goldwater is in it. He passed away not all that long afterwards. He said that he regretted siding with the dam construction advocates, that it was a mistake.
