"Suck on this!" – Thomas Friedman celebrates 20 years in Iraq
Thursday Throwdown – Your midweek dose of media madness
It’s the twentieth anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq, and if you’re not one of the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who were killed in the occupation, it may be time to celebrate!
Joe Biden, Thomas Friedman, John Kirby, Judith Miller and more are at the party, laughing that their years of lies, which led to the destruction of a country, have had zero consequences on themselves. Let us know in the comments which psychopath you think is the most gleefully unhinged:
There’s Biden. As a senator, he was one of the leading forces pushing for Bush to invade Iraq and find WMDs. And months after the US invaded, he cheered on the war, saying he would vote that way again. But 2020 Biden tells it differently. You decide which Joe is the liar.
There’s John Kirby. He’s the National Security advisor who said a ceasefire with Russia would be unacceptable. On the 20th Anniversary Spectacular, he lamented only the deaths of the 4000 US soldiers who died. At least he didn’t pretend to care about the 200,000 Iraqis. Maybe he’s the honest one.
And then there’s the folks at the New York Times. Judith Miller, the corporate outlet’s most outspoken pusher of the war, who’s now doubling down on the deadly invasion. And Thomas Friedman, the psychopath who took out his big stick and knocked on Iraqi doors and told them to “suck on this.” It’s a weird psychosexual fantasy that only intensifies with each hundred-thousandth murder.
If you are one of the countless Iraqis who lost their homes, families, or lives, today is not a day to celebrate. But if you are a psychopathic neocon whose power has only grown since the invasion of Iraq, it sadly seems that you’re eating your cake too.
Katie and Aaron throw down on this nightmare celebration. It’s our Thursday bonus episode. Let us know in the comments what corporate media monologues, interviews, or anything else you want to see on the next Thursday Throwdown.
