The past few weeks have been jam-packed with breaking news and impactful reporting: Seymour Hersh’s Nord Stream scoop, Jeff Gerth’s Russiagate reveiw, the Lever’s East Palestine coverage, and the Rage Against the War Machine protests against the proxy war. And Useful Idiots has researched and reported on all of it.
But this is the Thursday Throwdown, your midweek dose of media madness, and, like Monday Mourning, it’s our chance to implement the crucial system of checks and balances over the CIA-backed corporate news.
So this week, as the newest breaking news from the Department of Energy says a lab leak is more of a likely Covid origin than a natural event, we’ll start not with our own research and reporting but with corporate media’s increasingly common reaction of smear-first-debate-never.
With legendary reporters Hersh and Gerth (a great name for a comedy duo), we found no instances in mainstream media of arguments against their facts or sources, only name-calling, smearing, burying. The same happened as David Sirota was accused of profiting off the train explosion by Politico (which is literally sponsored by the train lobby) and with Rachel Maddow’s sickening mockery of an anti-war protest. Now, angry corporate media is rushing to twitter again to silence any discussion that their totally-not-racist “Chinese eat bats” theory is wrong. Never facts or discussion, just smears.
But not everyone’s trying to hide it. Over at Fox News, Tucker Carlson’s show is running rampant in the other directions with conspiracy theories about China’s covert plan to destroy the west with Covid, an Iraq WMD-level claim.
Plus, there’s the Russian’s futuristic sonic weapons and MSNBC’s absurd coverage of Marianne Williamson. So yeah, it’s a pretty big dose of media madness this week. Katie and Aaron are here to throw down on it all.
It’s our Thursday bonus episode. Let us know in the comments what corporate media monologues, interviews, or anything else you want to see on the next Thursday Throwdown.
