Thursday Throwdown: The Midterms Meltdown
The place to get your exclusive dose of midweek media madness.
Useful Idiots went chin deep into this election, livestreaming for four brutally drunk hours on Tuesday (Taibbi hit us hard), trying to answer impossibly depressing questions in the Absurd Arena, and we’re still going watching post-election coverage. All in the hope that you won’t have to.
First, we stop by the absolute rager that was Morning Joe on Wednesday: the crowd was going nuts, Joe was making gross period jokes, no one could contain their excitement for the Dems’ not-horrible-loss.
Then over to CNN, the professional network that always gets down to business. Who has time for celebrating when there’s propaganda to be spread? “Don’t look at social media,” John King tells viewers in front of his Magic Wall. “You can only trust CNN.” And the camera pans back to the anchor desk with Dana Bash: “The exit polls are wrong. In the top five issues for voters, no one said ‘Democracy is on the ballot.’ They’re lying to you! Trust CNN!”
And finally we hit up Fox & Friends, who are shocked by the lack of a red wave, but focus on a much more important issue. That’s right, they’re not living in DePast or even DePresent. They’re staring straight into DeFuture with their new star Ron DeSanctimonious.
There’s so much to make fun of, which means it’s more important than ever that Useful Idiots is here to do what we do best.
It’s our Thursday mini-episode. Let us know in the comments what corporate media monologues, interviews, or anything else you want to see on the next Thursday Throwdown.
