There are some really motivated cancel culture influencers out there. I cannot decide what is worse frankly. The actual attacking of Jesse and Dan by groups of reactive people or the sheer paucity of evidence and research pointing to the accusation at hand.
Its almost as if the Trump derangement syndrome (I say this as someone who identifies to the far left of Marx) has gone viral and created an entire era of destructive entitlement around a monolithic aspect of a person's lived experience (gender, race, religion, ethnicity).
Is it too late to remind everyone on planet earth - that each of us are more than any one category we are ascribed to, by an outside observer in the surveillance state?
We need some incisive, unsparing journalism into the personal lives of the people who sent these tweets. I for one am very curious to know everything. Everything. Let nothing be hidden any longer.
I’m with you. Not attacking anyone, but just for knowledge sake. I definitely think some are just victims of the propaganda - very disappointed to Evan Greer join in, who usually has good opinions - but I wouldn’t be surprised if the prime instigators don’t have ulterior motives.
Leftist Twitter has devolved into a purity contest and any critical thought is seen as a personal attack. It’s a network filled with zero-sum games. I say this as a far left progressive. Makes me sad.
I disagree with Jesse and Katie. They use problematic language like ‘concern’ and try to frame their bigotry as morally superior by stating ‘who could be against 12 and 13 year olds getting the best healthcare possible’ while arguing against that very healthcare. They even openly admit that there isn’t an alarming number of de-transitioners or ‘erasure’ of lesbians. And if that’s the case, why are they both so ‘concerned’ for what happens between a 12 year old and their doctor? Bigotry is the likely answer. Again, see ContraPoints YouTube about JK Rowling.
As a mother and a grandmother, I really can't understand why people think it is bigotry to be concerned about whether 12 and 13 year olds are ready to make decisions that will permanently alter their bodies. I know from personal experience, which I won't go into here, that people change A LOT between the age of 12 and say, the age of 25. It's entirely possible for a child who was born female to want to be a boy for a few years, then later realize she's happy being female after all. I'm not saying I'm sure what the answer is for children who identify as trans or non-binary, but shutting down all discussion of this topic by calling it bigotry is not helping anyone.
Yes. And most doctors will only prescribe puberty blockers at that age which is nothing to have ‘concern’ about. Also, you are not a medical professional so your opinion doesn’t really matter between a child/parent and their doctor. There is data that even among adolescents who go on puberty blockers only about 2% stop. The other 98% go on to do hormone therapy after they become adults. So while you can have the conversation, feigning ‘concern’ for the tiny fraction of youths who ‘detransition’ is mostly based on bad faith and incorrect data.
I'm not sure how you know I'm not a medical professional, but you're right, I'm not. And I definitely didn't say my opinion mattered when it comes to decisions between individual children and their parents and doctors. I admit I don't know much about the long-term affects of taking puberty blockers, but I wouldn't want scientists or medical professionals to be prohibited from raising any concerns they might have about them.
I could tell you weren't a medical professional because you didn't know the correct data. A rudimentary google search proves most of the trans misconceptions spouted by Katie Herzog, Jesse Singal and JK Rowling false. They frame their bigotry as 'concern' because there isn't an actual problem other than the one they are trying to manufacture consent for. Same thing with trans girls in high school sports. It's a manufactured problem based on bigotry. There isn't a single instance of a trans girl dominating in regional high school sports. Yet with the huge number of laws posed by Republicans and Tulsi Gabbard, you'd think this was some epidemic sweeping across America.
I stayed in the closet until the age of 30 because the culture wasn’t ready to accept me. Now at the age of 44 I have to go back bc the culture has moved past me and now I’m a bigot. Just ranting - but I’m gonna formalize these thoughts.
There is a legitimate debate about safe spaces today. I’m an advocate for all sides. We should provide shelter first. For everybody. We can argue later.
Because some of our Moms aren’t onboard 100%. Because we have to bring them onboard. WTF ? Are you a member of the gay community? Were you recently sexually assaulted? I was. This month.
You seem very confused about what we are talking about or what relevance your personal life has on the human rights of trans people. Because you seem confused and unable to actually articulate a cohesive thought or point, I’m going to stop engaging you. Good day.
Reminds me of an old R. Crumb cartoon of Snappy Sammy Smoot. "Snappy Sammy, this is God, and everything you've been taught is wrong". Someone needs to go up on the mountain and bring back the newest take on the Ten Commandments so I know what the hell is going on.
Weird that cancel culture warriors never go after establishment figures. It’s nearly always directed at critics of the establishment or people who are already on the fringes. Not to mention, the targets almost never caused real harm comparable to people like Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Bush, David Frum, Bill Kristol, etc. Instead, all of this vicious outrage is directed at people who just mildly deviate from mainstream culture, with the intent to ruin their lives and careers.
Cheers to Dan!

Jesus fucking Christ - this is messed up.

sad part is that "everything" could be bait for any of our lives in that next instance...

You and Katie are AMAZING!
People have been inside for too long. Pandemicized.

Ok, but I didn't quote any data at all, correct or incorrect. I was speaking of personal experience, and I said so.
So your personal experience is rooted in bigotry. Cool.

TERFs are bad. Please see ContraPoints video about JK Rowling.
Don’t deny women safe spaces. There’s a legit dialog to have with women on this.
What dialog? It isn’t up to women to decide if trans people are legit or if trans people deserve human rights.
There is a legitimate debate about safe spaces today. I’m an advocate for all sides. We should provide shelter first. For everybody. We can argue later.
There isn’t ever a reason to provide a safe space for bigotry. Wtf?!

bizarre. we may hit that whats it called convergence...quicker than we thought.

I don’t know who these people are but the glee with which others are piling on should give anyone pause.
