Activist Evan Greer has big ideas for the future of the internet. Let’s just say a lot more optimistic than those of the Useful Idiots:
“We need to see an internet past Facebook. What we need to do instead of constantly talking about: “How do we reform Facebook? How do we make it better?” I think we need to abolish Facebook by replacing it.”
An internet without Facebook is like seeing a world past capitalism; can anyone actually imagine that, let alone predict it? Evan says we can.
In this interview, we discuss free speech and surveillance (hint: there’s one we should protect and one we should fight, but we don’t always do that).
Evan explains:
“Many people focus on the speech that Facebook allows and amplifies rather than recognizing that they're also suppressing a lot of speech.
“And if we enact regulations that maybe make Facebook a less angry place, but kneecap our ability to build the social movement that we need so that our streets aren't patrolled by murdering robot dogs, that's not a net positive for the future of humanity.”
It’s an important interview about the most dangerous platform called The Company Soon To Be Known As The Company Formerly Known As Facebook. Watch it here.
