Regarding John Kiriakou's comment about the U.S. soldier in Vietnam who received 20 years for waterboarding a prisoner - The C.I.A. of course was all over Vietnam and tortured prisoners in even worse ways, such as electrocution. If his point is that the public is more jaded about torture than in 1968, he's sadly probably right. My suspicion is that the trial only occurred because the public found out. Certainly in the Vietnam example there was howling hypocrisy. The executions of Japanese soldiers for the same offense was likely not free of racism. This could be incorrect, but I don't recall any Germans at Nuremberg being sentenced to death solely for torture. Public views aside, the U.S. military, intelligence agencies and police haven't seen more innocent or moral times.

What an interesting and entertaining interview with the raconteur par excellence, John Kiriakou. Katie's expression when the Alec Baldwin "incident" popped up into the conversation was absolutely priceless!
