I think Ryan has too much faith in the Democratic Party. He thinks Sinema is "screwing herself politically" but not if she's playing the heel for other Democrats. If Sinema is running cover for other Democrats that don't want to publicly come out against the bill they will absolutely take her call as a lobbyist.

Or the party will flood her next campaign with cash and endorsements while crushing any progressive primary all but guaranteeing her a win.

Was excited to watch until I found out it was Ryan Grim. No thanks.

Fortunately for you, watching and/or listening is voluntary. Fortunately for me, it is an informational and entertaining segment.

Don't make a judgement about Ryan Grim based on the recent Jimmy Dore-Ryan Grim-Aaron Maté feud. Grim has a lot of interesting things to say in this interview. Great stuff about Manchin and Sinema.

Bernie originally proposed $6T and said it wasn't enough. The US spent $21 or $23T in the failed Iraqi and Afghan wars, and now we're supposed to go from $3.5T to $2.2 or $1.5T and LIKE it?!?!?!? Seems like a total gut punch to the American people to me. . . .

When I heard about taxes, and raising taxes to get more revenue. I FINALLY REALIZED HOW NIAEVE YOU ARE. Are you pushing a Democrat corporatist agenda, like the Young Turks, who turned into the Old Jerks?

Here are some facts. Fifty-five corporations that paid 0 in taxes actually, on the average, paid -8,6% in taxes. They had $40.5 Billion in earnings and received about 3.5 Billion back from the taxpayer. (1) Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc., are all based in Ireland using the Double Irish and Dutch sandwich to hide their money. (3) Many of the wealthy offshore their money . READ THE PANDORA PAPERS.(2)

Note in the Guardian report they said that they will make it difficult to offshore money in Europe. You just talk about Joe Biden raising taxes. The tax code is like a sieve, trapping money of the poor and leaving money of the rich through. Unless you change the tax code, you will not collect money. Raising taxes is useless. ARE YOU PURPOSELY LYING TO US, TRYING TO BULL SHIT US WITH THE CORPORATE NARRATIVE?

THESE BASTARDS MADE IDIOTS OF THE US PEOPLE LONG ENOUGH ABOUT TAXATION. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS NARRATIVE.

Your turning me into a fan. I remember the corporations emptying their head offices as they moved to Toronto, Calgary, Boston , LA and New York and telling us the High Taxes would destroy us. The Churches told us we would regret taking away their power. Real democracy isn't easy but you know this is where the love is and love conquers all.

Brian Grim saying Pharma is scared? They overcharge us for drugs, and we pay for research than development and production. Look Molnupiravir and paying 40 times more than the manufacturing cost for the initial 1.7 million doses. The American Taxpayer gets soaked by Pharma.

3 Trillion being spent again. All are going to American businesses again, just like the corporate welfare we gave on the 2019 stimulus payments. The American taxpayer got about 1600 dollars, and that is about 5 cents on the dollar. It all went to; the Airlines, Cruise companies, Boeing for a plane that always crashed, and franchise restaurants.

I live in Quebec but I understand American cynicism. The government we had before the present one had a pretty terrific record in improved the quality of life of the average Quebecer. Our press was cognoscente of its good governance and was very supportive but when the scent of corruption began to be sensed the then government's fate was sealed.

A healthy democracy such as ours demands a free press. Without a free press any pretence of liberal democracy is a farce. Last I looked the USA ranked 44th in press freedom and we are miles ahead of the rest of Canada in our demand for a free and independent journalism. Canada ranks 14th.

A healthy democracy creates trust. A free press is one that can create trust, not a narrative that is repeated over and over again. Trust is the social fabric of society. We no longer have moral values, or character. SIX PILLARS OF CHARACTER I FOLLOW AND THINK GOVERNMENT SHOULD FOLLOW

1. Trustworthy; (don't cheat, don't steal, reliable, dependable, be faithful to your family and your character, do what you say, honest),

2. Respect; (tolerance, listening to others, use good manners, not bad language, be considerate of the feelings of others, don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • deal peacefully with anger, insults),

3. Responsibility; (self-control, be self-disciplined, think before you act, consider the consequences, be accountable for your words, actions, and attitudes)

4. Fairness; (play by the rules, take turns and share, be open-minded; temperate, analytical, sincere, truthful, don’t blame others carelessly. treat all people fairly or equally, objectivity)

5. Caring; ( Be compassionate and show empathy, express gratitude, forgive others , Help people in need)

6. Citizenship; (Volunteerism, the environment, paying your taxes even though there are loopholes, honoring ideals country was founded on, get involved in community affairs • stay informed; vote, be a good neighbor, obey laws and rules, respect authority)

Lose money, you lose nothing

Lose health, you lose something

Lose character you lose everything

In his interview before his San Sabastien concert Cohen talks about Phil Ochs and Ochs last two weeks. For me it ended years of nonsense and conspiracy theories regarding Och's death. I wonder if Ochs really had a crystal ball. Watching America the last 56 years hasn't been easy but luckily I learned to love. Love is America's only salvation and I wonder if America can learn to love again. If Quebec could learn to love, why not America?

Bingo.

I know it sounds chauvinistic but that is our metaphysic. I believe that is what Americans want. I never understood why after 1964 you let tribalism and corruption destroy your evolving democracy. I never understood how you let those against the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act allowed you destroy the society I grew up dreaming about. I grew up under the Quebec Act of 1774 and some grew up knowing great privilege but most grew up impoverished, ignorant and dreaming of a better afterlife.. Fortunately I grew up in a family that didn't believe in pie in the sky.

If it was in French this would be Quebec's Anthem how fitting that Leonard Cohen's Anthem should be America's Anthem.

Phil Ochs Janis Joplin Leonard Cohen Ian and Sylvia were the sixties the Hippies were the corporate response to the prophets. The prophets preached peace love and understanding and the hippies were sex drugs and rock and roll. Peace love and understanding could not compete. It was really the beginning of the culture wars. Peace love and understanding was about giving and sex drugs and rock and roll was about self gratification. The hippies were easier target for the plutocrats

Enjoyed the live format. I don’t agree with Grim’s analysis entirely, but enjoy hearing other perspectives. One critique: you brought up the Garland memo, but focused only on the fact that it wasn’t widely reported on, and on that point you were correct, I had not heard about it. So why then did you not provide any further information about it other than at a minimum it was controversial. Why is it controversial? Why isn’t it being reported other than Fox. Is Fox overblowing it? Is it rightly being ignored by msm? It was like you dropped a bomb and walked away from it. I had to pause your podcast to find out more about it, because as presented it sounded pretty scary that DOJ was focusing attention on activists at school board meetings.
