The Twitter Files – Thursday Throwdown
The place to get your exclusive dose of midweek media madness.
It looks like Matt Taibbi got that coveted Useful Idiots Bump.
On Friday night, Taibbi, with help from Twitter CEO Elon Musk, uncovered the Twitter Files. This reporting showed that Twitter, accepting outside requests, censored news, tweets, and accounts that differed from the accepted mainstream narrative, revealing what would be an illegal abuse of power by big tech.
But the response from liberal corporate media like MSNBC, the New York Times, and Pod Save America wasn’t to read the story, debate it, and try find flaws in the reporting, but to attack Matt for the act of journalism itself.
“Wow, Matt Taibbi’s doing PR work for the richest man in the world,” they all said, in haunting unison, marionette jaws clacking up and down, asserting he should have covered up a story he found (like a real journalist).
And then came the fake news, with Pod Save America and company lying that the Twitter Files were only leaks of Hunter Biden’s dick pics, and you’re the weird one for wanting to see those so bad, creep. Did they not read the story, missing the parts about big tech censorship and illegal campaign business deals, or were they willingly helping the ruling class suppress the truth?
A huge problem with this is that a debate on the actual evidence has not yet begun because corporate media is still trying to change what viewers think the Twitter Files actually show. And this could backfire for them, with those who actually read the thread not hearing any arguments about its contents, thus lending it more credibility.
This is a crazy story, so Katie and Aaron throw down on the Twitter Files and the calamitous responses from liberal media.
It’s our Thursday mini-episode. Let us know in the comments what corporate media monologues, interviews, or anything else you want to see on the next Thursday Throwdown.
