DNC loyalists working at The Nation pressured her to get rid of Patrick Lawrence for writing a piece exposing the lie that Russia hacked the DNC. After promising to stand behind Lawrence (and her own decision to publish the piece) she shamefully and cowardly capitulated to establishment liberals. The Nation has gone downhill ever since and isn't even a shadow of its former self. Numerous people, including vanden Heuvel's late husband, the great Russianist Stephen Cohen, were well aware of what happened.
